Walter Sneddon Obituary

Walter T (Walt) Sneddon died peacefully at his home in Salida on February 12, 2020. He was married to Maggi Kelly Sneddon on June 1, 1980, and was looking forward to their 40th Wedding Anniversary. Walt was an accomplished Master Plumber of fifty years. He retired last June from the Salida School District, wherehe held the position of Operations Director for ten years. Previously, he owned Apex Mechanical and A-1 Plumbing. In addition, he was at one time the Director of Maintenance at Monarch Mountain Lodge, and evolved into the positionof General Manager. Walt, as his wife Maggi always called him, will forever be remembered for his continual melodious whistling at home and everywhere he went, morning, noon and night. He had many hobbies, interests and Community involvement, which included Chairman of the Board for Furnace Ministries, and member of the Caring & Sharing Board. At one time he served as an Elder at The Upper Room Church of God, where he also taught a Bible Study for several years. As a lifetimemember of the NRA, he had a passion for hunting and target shooting with his wife. Walt was a phenomenal self-taught musician and song writer, recording many of his own compositions. A skilled Craftsman (woodworking genius), he created a beautiful home for his wife and family. As his son Jesse stated, “Walt was a man of wisdom, always accentuating the positive and discounting the negative inanyone’s challenges in life. Walt was solid and never easily moved in the face of opposition. He led by example, and saw the potential in everyone.” Proceeded in death by his parents, Wesley T and Ruth Sneddon, and his 16 year old Grandson Jacob Alan Hawkins. Survivors include his wife Maggi, sister Mary Rozaklis, sons John Michael Hawkins (Penny) and Jesse Kelly (Lisa). Daughters Kristin Lee Kelly, Kellie Schulist and Jenifer Hepp (Greg). Always referring to him as “Bonga”, his Grand and Great Grandchildren include Theresa Rene Watkins, Dylan Schulist, Kassidy Jean Kelly, Isaac Thomas Berry, Isaiah Jacob Solomon, Grace Isabella Berry, Devin Schulist, Noah Michael Watkins, Joshua True Berry, Jonah Michael Kelly, Micaiah Lily Watkins, Lilah Rose Watkins and Judah Samuel Watkins. ( Beloved dogs, Banjo & Annie ) A gathering in Walt’s honor will be held at The Upper Room, 1140 I Street (12th & I Streets) on Saturday, February 29 at 11:00 AM, followed by a luncheon.
