Viola C. Martinez

Viola Martinez, 91, was reunited with her husband on July 10, 2021.  Born to John and Laura Maestas on October 21, 1929 and raised in Salida, CO, where she met her husband, J. Bennie Martinez. They married on October 2, 1948 and remained married for 60 years until his passing in July 2009.

Viola spent her life as a devoted mother and housewife.  She loved dancing and spending time with family.  Her warmth, lighthearted personality, and strength in times of joy and difficulty never failed to raise the spirits of all who knew her, and she was a blessing to family, friends, and neighbors.  Along with her husband, she supported her children and grandchildren in all of their dreams and ambitions and was generous to those in need.  She was loved and is deeply missed by her family.

She is survived by siblings Jake Maestas, Gloria Archuleta, Donna Rendon and Juanita Serna. She is also survived by her three children, Diana Gauchat, Sharon Wright, Joseph B Martinez and her daughter-in-law, Violeta Martinez; five grandchildren, John St. Angelo, Joseph Wright, Lisa St. Angelo, Joseph R Martinez and Amanda Cary; four great grandchildren, Tiana, Natalie, Junior Guillen, and Crystal; 7 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and godchildren.

Viola is predeceased by her parents John and Laura Maestas, and siblings Julian Maestas, Betty Roybal, and Dorothy Maez.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday July 20th, 2021 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Salida, Colorado, preceded by a recitation of the rosary at 10:30 a.m.
