Tom was born in South Dakota but spent his early childhood in Minnesota playing with neighborhood friends. The family moved with Western Airlines to Aurora, Colorado, where he graduated from Aurora Central High School in 1967. He graduated from the University of Colorado in 1971 and earned his CPA in 1982 after the birth of his son Derek. He worked as an entrepreneur and also for several businesses over the course of his career and retired in 2017 as the CFO of the Canyon Casino.
His real love was family and the outdoors of Colorado and Alaska:
Backpacking and fishing in the 1970s
Hiking and fishing in the 1980s
Fishing and rafting in the 1990s
Rafting and fishing in the 2000s.
He taught his midwestern wife to carry a 45-pound backpack full of provisions for a week, and how to put one foot at a time ahead to climb mountain trails. He taught his son the same plus how to navigate the raft on the Roaring Fork River and the Arkansas.
For the past two years he has planted wildflowers along the ditch outside of his house in Poncha for the enjoyment of everyone who passed.
He is survived by his wife Cinda, son Derek, father Gordon, sister Linda (Ernie) Chillemi, brother Richard (Mary) and sister Karen (Pete) Jorgensen.
Those preceding him were his mother Carma and beloved pet family members: cat Baron, dogs: Roxie, Colby, Tundra, Vader and Storm and grand pup Loki.
Per his request, there will be no services, but next spring, consider tossing out a handful of wildflower seeds to enhance the beauty of our little corner of the world.
