Sandra Lou Grosch, 78, of Salida, went home to be with the Lord on
January 22, 2022. She is missed by many people who were touched by her
gentle, sweet spirit and joyful smile, though we rejoice that she is now in
the presence of her Savior.
Sandy was born on March 25, 1943 to Herman and Th irginia (McClure)
McCammon in Sullivan, Indiana. Early in her childhood, the family
moved to Chicago, Illinois. At the age of 15, Sandy made the decision
to follow Jesus and accept him as her Lord and Savior. She would serve
Him faithfully all the rest of her days.
After high school, Sandy attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. She
went on to work a variety of jobs, including at the Moody Bookstore, the
Regular Baptist Press, and the headquarters of AWANA ministries. Her
great joy and passion, however, was working as a teachers’ aid for children
in special education programs in Woodstock, Illinois. Her kindness and
love made an impact on many children over the years.
During high school, Sandy met Russell Grosch at their church youth
group. Eventually, afer Russ returned from serving in the Army, they
were engaged, and were married on August 15, 1964 at the Belden Avenue
Baptist Church in Chicago. They would go on to have 2 children and 8
grandchildren.
Russ and Sandy were active in each church they attended through the
years, serving in a variety of areas. Sandy particularly loved music, and
sang with the church trio. She passed her love of music on to her daughter.
Sandy fought Alzheimer’s for the last 12 years of her life, with her beloved
husband faithfully caring for her. Through all those years, she never lost
her sweet spirit and she never forgot her precious Savior.
Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, and by her grandson, Alex.
She is survived by her husband, daughter Sherry (Bill), son Kevin (Tracy),
grandchildren Bennett, Lauren, Bryce, Grace, Andrew, Riley and Nicholas,
brother Orion McCammon, and sister Janice Leach.
A Celebration of Life for Sandy will be held on Saturday, January 29 at
11AM at Grace Church in Salida. A private interment service will be held
Monday, January 31 at the Pikes Peak National Cemetery in Colorado
Springs.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the
Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org/co) or to Heart of the Rockies
Hospice (www.heartoft herockieshhh.com).
