Rose Mary (Flores) Middleton, 86, of Poncha Springs, Colorado died November 6th, at her home. She was married to Wiley A. Middleton, who preceded her in death on April 23rd, 2022.
Rose was born in 1937 in Leadville, Colorado to Joe and Andrellita Flores. She spent her time surrounded by the love of a large family, working and attending the Annunciation Catholic Church. In 1955 she met Wiley, her husband of 67 years, while he was stationed at Camp Hale. Rose and Wiley were married in the same church she had attended throughout her young life.
Rose became an Army wife who became quite adept at making things work. She made relocating seamless for her family and adapted well to the rigors of being a military wife. She moved the family many times to many duty stations over 20 years, often living in a state for a short time, before going to the next assigned duty station. This included relocating to Germany and a number of bases located within the United States. With kids in tow, Rose would navigate airports, train stations and bus stations with grace and simplicity. She was extremely organized and could have an entire house packed and moved at the drop of a hat.
After they retired from the Army, Rose and Wiley returned home to Leadville. Rose worked for the Lake County Schools until they relocated to Poncha Springs, Colorado. Poncha Springs was used as a home base for traveling in their fifth wheel and hosting campgrounds in many parts of Colorado. Rose loved to cook, fish, cross country ski, tend to the Columbines in her garden and best of all watch the hummingbirds with awe,
from her backyard deck.
Rose spent her entire life taking care of her family. She was warm, friendly and had a sense of humor that made the day better and brighter. We are heartbroken about the loss of our mother, grandmother and great grandmother and will miss her so very much.
Rose M. Middleton was preceded in death by her parents Joe and Andrellita Flores, siblings, by her husband Wiley A. Middleton, and son Michael Dean Middleton. She is survived by her sons Wiley J.(Deborah) Middleton, Jim E. Middleton, Paul J.(Kerri) Middleton and daughter Andrea R. Middleton. Grandkids include Chelsea Norton, Rose Hrabak, Selena Middleton, Wiley R. Middleton, Leticia Faust, Melissa Doyle, Michael Maestas, Andrew Middleton, Adrian Middleton, Ayden Middleton and many incredible great grandchildren.
There will be no service at this time although a private family gathering will be held in the spring. Online condolences may be sent through lewisandglenn.com. Arrangements were with Lewis and Glenn in Salida, Colorado.
