Ralph Joesph Valdez Jr., 73, of Salida died January 21, 2024 at Heart of The Rockies Medical Center in Salida, surrounded by family. Mr. Valdez was born Dec. 14, 1950, to Oralia and Joe Ralph Valdez in Silverton. The family moved to Salida in 1955. He married the love of his life Billie Jean in 1977 and had three beautiful children. Mr. Valdez was proud to have worked on the Rio Grande and Sante Fe Railroads, the Climax Molybdenum Mine and St. Joseph Parish. He was an avid fisherman and outdoorsmen. He loved fishing at the high lakes, streams and rivers, Mr. Valdez loved to be outdoors to be closer to God and embrace his strong faith. Friends and family said he did not know a stranger; he was known as the most generous, gentle and kind man. He never hesitated to express how much he loved his family. Mr. Valdez loved sports, especially the New York Yankees. He lived for his family, his grandkids were his pride and joy. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, daughter Jennifer (Chad) Arnett of Salida and daughter Rochelle (John) Tracy of Arvada. Mr. Valdez joined his son, Shane Valdez, in heaven. Grandchildren Brianna Arnett, McKensie, Caleb, and Lillian Valdez, and Teagan and Kaden Tracy. Sister Doris Jewell of Salida and Jim Valdez of Pueblo, along with many cousins and close relatives. Proceeding Ralph in death were his parents, brother Mike Valdez and mother and father-in-law, Fern and Ralph Crowder. A celebration of life will be scheduled in the spring. In lieu of flowers, Mr. Valdez would have appreciated a donation to support Colorado's rivers and fisheries. Arrangements are with Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.
