Paul Campbell Obituary

Paul M. Campbell, age 93, passed away at home surrounded by family on October 26, 2023. Mr. Campbell was a long time resident of Salida, since 1965. He was born June 26, 1930 in Montrose, CO to Jess and Blanche Campbell. Mr. Campbell had two brothers and seven sisters; Leonard Campbell, Marcine (Jim) Williams, Neal (Donna) Campbell, Rosalie (Gene) Closser, Lois (Dean) Albeyta, Dorothy (Lin) Moore, Donna (Bill) Cording, Katherine (Dan) Greenlee and Shirley (Tom) Lines. Mr. Campbell was married to his wife Kathleen on June 7, 1959 in Canon City, CO. He is survived by his wife Kathleen, sisters Donna and Shirley, cousin and close companion Mr. Bob Gullett and numerous nieces and nephews. As Paul would say “hundreds of them, the thundering herd”! Paul has many friends in the Salida area and throughout Colorado. Even though Paul and Kathleen had no children of their own, they provided a home and raised their two nephews, Darald and Donald Closser. Mr. Campbell received a Conservation Award and spent many days working the family property on Poncha Pass. He was drafted into the US Army and served in Germany from 1952 to 1954. Mr. Campbell was extremely proud to be a veteran and he and his family hosted Wounded Warriors for several years during big game hunting season on the Poncha Pass property. Prior to his military service, Paul lived on the Western Slope. His passions were hunting, fishing and breaking and riding horses. He was a long time member of the Elks, Masonic and VFW Lodges. Paul Owned Central Colorado Trucking Company which he hauled livestock throughout Colorado and other states. Mr. Campbell spent most of his life working in construction and was well known and respected as the owner/operator of Arkansas Valley Contractors of Salida. Paul worked and was active up to the “young age of 91.” A Memorial service is set for 11:00 AM Saturday November 4, 2023 at Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home. A military service will be held at a later date at the Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Grand Junction, Colorado. The family is requesting no flowers, donations can be made to : Disabled American Veterans or Tunnels to Towers (T2T), 2361 Hylan Blvd, Stanton Island, NY 10306. T2T builds homes for disabled veterans and first responders. Donations can be made to the Salvation Army as well. On line condolences may be sent to the family at lewisandglenn.com. Paul Campbell will be deeply missed by his family and numerous friends for his integrity, compassion, great sense of humor, storytelling and willingness to help others. Paul was a true friend to many.
