It is with the heaviest of hearts that I share the loss of a great woman. Merrilou Katherine (Hock) Cicerelli was brought home by our Lord on June 10th of 2023. Merrilou Katherine (Hock) Cicerelli, was born on (3/28/1949). She was raised by her parents who migrated over to America from Germany. Fred and Corrinne raised Merrilou and her sister, Catherine, and her brother Bill and Rodney (passed at birth), in Denver Colorado. Merrilou graduated from Denver North High School and from there went on to work at Mountain Bell. Little did she know that working for MA Bell would provide her with an opportunity to cross paths with her future husband. Merrilou took on an assignment with her 3 friends to go and work at a remote location in Salida Colorado. Typically, they would carpool down in different cars but on one faithful night, they decided to drive Merrilou’s car down to Salida. This wouldn’t be an important factor in this romantic story, but it just so happened that one of the teens in Salida had the same car but in a different color. Yes, that lucky man was Larry Cicerelli with the matching blue 66 Chevy SS. From that night on, a magical relationship transpired which grew into a 52-year marriage. Merrilou is survived by her husband Larry Cicerelli, 3 wonderful boys, Michael (Jaimee Cicerelli wife to Michael), Anthony (Geree best friend of Anthony), and William (Vanessa significant other of William), and 3 amazing grandchildren, (Gulianna (Lil G), Treyson (Trey), and Kennedy (Kiki). Sister-in-law Lorianne Pasquale, and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, and cousins. Merrilou was a dedicated mother that prioritized family first and was always ready to accommodate any and all travel plans for her boys’ athletic schedules. Always on the ready with the VHS camcorder, she traveled throughout Colorado never missing a game. She provided limitless emotional support and was a staunch advocate for her children’s success but was also always available to comfort. Merrilou was also a proud SHS Spartan Athletic Booster and helped serve up some of the most memorable spaghetti dinners. In the early 90’s she decided to pursue her interest in computers. She worked closely with Lynn Stagner in the Salida school system and in that time Merrilou’s interest in computers expanded greatly. Merrilou continued her education at Colorado Mountain College (CMC) where she received her degree in Cisco Networking. That degree landed her the next position in which was Network Administrator for Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center (HRRMC). After a decade-long tenure at HRRMC, she began working as a clerk in the Salida’s office of municipal affairs. She was there until her retirement in 2010. Thank you Vicky and Joyce for creating such a special place to work for our mother. After retiring from the Clerk’s office, Larry and Merrilou started their retirement. Merrilou loved the outdoors and fishing, wasn’t afraid of a casino or two, and is highly regarded as the best gambler in the family. She enjoyed continually traveling the country and visiting numerous state monuments, famous cities, and national parks. They also enjoyed the retirement community lifestyle, taking full advantage of the live dancing, potlucks, water activities and musical shows in the community. Merrilou Katherine Cicerelli never gave up on anything and never met a challenge that she wouldn’t take head-on and beat. She had that “MomBa” mentality if you know what I mean. I love you so much!!! Please donate to St. Jude’s or Children’s Hospital in memory of Merrilou in lieu of flowers. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on June 21st, with rosary at 10:30am, and Mass at 11:00 am at St. Joseph Church. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
