Marvin Nordby Obituary

Marvin LeRoy Nordby, born February 16,1944 passed away Monday March 28,2022. He died with his daughter by his side after a long struggle with COPD. Marvin was born in Irwin, Iowa to Arlo and Mabel Nordby. Marvin’s childhood was spent working the family farm with his parents and one sister, Carol Pawling. Marvin married Patricia Burger on October 30, 1965. They met at Mickels Restaurant in Harlan, Iowa. Sadly, he lost his wife after 55 years of marriage and his only son passed away ten days later. Marvin was not the same after these losses. Marvin and Pat moved to Salida, Colorado in 1974, with two children in tow. Their third child was born 4 years later. Pat was not excited about the move from her home and family, but my dad really wanted to live where there were mountains. When he wasn’t working hard to support his family, or tinkering on an invention he dreamt up or building anything he could think of, Marvin enjoyed hunting deer and elk. In his younger years he loved to fish, go camping anything to get him into the mountains that brought him to Colorado. Marvin achieved his master electrician license in 1982 while he was working full time and building a home for his family. In 1983 he opened Marv’s Electric which he has operated ever since. He has always been so thankful of the friends he made of his customers. Many of them became close personal friends and that meant the world to him. Marvin was preceded in death by both parents and his wife and son, Mike Nordby. He is survived by his sister Carol Pawling, daughters Marti(John) Dodgen and Sara Nordby. He leaves behind 5 grandsons who have all counted on him as much as his own children did. Marvin also leaves behind 5 great-grandchildren that made him smile like no other. He leaves us all heartbroken over such a loss, none of us were ready but we are thankful he is free from all his pain. Memorial services are set for 11:00 AM Saturday May 7, 2022 at Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home. Arrangements are with Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.
