MARILYN JOAN (said JoAnne) SCHIEFFELIN (maiden name PREUSSE) was born January 13, 1931,
and went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 27, 2025 at the age of 94.
Her graveside service will be March 7, 2025, at 11:00 am at the Buena Vista Mt. Olivet Cemetery
(weather permitting).
Marilyn was married to Joseph Beggs Schieffelin on August 11, 1956. They were married two months
shy of 60 years, which was when she lost the love of her life. She is survived by their three children
Joe, Janie, and Ted, along with their spouses Cari, Dean, and Tammy. She is also survived by 19
grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren with another two coming soon.
Marilyn was born in Falls City, Nebraska, a small farming town. Prior to her senior year of high school
the family moved to Lincoln, Nebraska. Marilyn attended University of Nebraska in Lincoln, receiving
her bachelor’s degree in music teaching (piano) and elementary teaching. For several summers during
college Marilyn worked for Stead’s Ranch in what is now Rocky Mountain National Park and there fell in
love with Colorado. Hence, upon graduating from Nebraska, she took an elementary teaching job in
Pueblo, CO. She was there for three years. In the meantime she learned to ski and actually met her
soon to be husband at Cooper Hill Ski Area (at the time). Upon marrying, she taught at Kent Country
Day School in Denver for two years. When children arrived, she became a stay-at-home mom.
Marilyn was born in the midst of the great depression and lived through World War II. Her only brother
was a pilot in the Korean War. She pursued her faith in Christ throughout most of her life while also
singing in the church choir with her husband. She was the instigator of family vacations, special family
traditions and places, and raising her children with moral and spiritual strength.
She is loved and will be missed!
