Lois Walrath Obituary

Lois Martin Selders Walrath, 92, of Salida, passed away on November 9, 2021 at Columbine Manor Care Center in Salida. She was born August 22, 1929 in Pawnee City, Nebraska to George and Ada Maritn. She grew up on a farm in Pawnee City and graduated from Lewiston Consolidated School in 1947. She taught in a rural schoolhouse in Nebraska for 2 years. On July 22, 1951 she married Joseph R. Selders in Lewiston, NE. They lived in Lincoln, NE and to this union was born four children. Roxann, Gayle, Steven and Kristine. Lois led a Girl Scout troop in Lincoln for 5 years in the 1960’s. While on vacation on August 2, 1970, the family was in an auto accident in Oklahoma. Her husband Joe and three of their children were killed, Roxann, Steven and Kristine. Lois worked for Union Bank in Lincoln during the 1970’s while raising her daughter and seeing her through school. On March 24, 1978 she married Lawrence A. Walrath in Lincoln, NE, they then moved to Texas. While living in Victoria, TX, Lois worked at a bank. She and Larry also had a small piece of land outside of Victoria where they raised a few head of cattle. In 1995, she and Larry moved to Salida, CO. In their retirement years, she and Larry had a motor home which they used frequently to travel around the country. They loved visiting relatives and both of them being members of the Good Sams Club they enjoyed the samborees in at least 13 different states. Her other activities she was involved in were sewing and hand quilting quilts, reading, doing jigsaw puzzles, sewing shirts for her husband and gardening. She was a member of the Eastern Star and was awarded a 50 year pin. She was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Churches. Here at the Salida United Methodist Church, she was a member of the quilting group and she made a quilt that was raffled off to help fund the restoration of the stained glass windows at the church. She was proceeded in death by her parents, sister Ruth Anna Hicks of Lincoln, NE, twin sister Louise Welsch of Milford, NE, her husbands Joseph Selders and Lawrence Walrath and her children Roxann, Steven and Kristine. She is survived by her daughter Gayle Johnson of Salida, CO, grandson Lee (Chelsea) Johnson of Salida, CO, step-daughters Renee Walrath and Brenda (Richard) Ramos both of Columbus, NE. Great grandchildren Kylee and Oren Johnson of Salida, CO and step-grand and great grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews.. Memorial Services are set for 11:00 AM Friday November 19, 2021 at the Salida United Methodist Church. Interment will take place at Wyuka Cemetery in Lincoln, NE at a later date. Friends who desire may make Memorial Contributions in her name to the United Methodist Church stained glass window fund through Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.
