Laurel Lee Lusk-Gary An incredibly loving heart, a kind and giving spirit, a witty sense of humor and a beautiful smile that would radiate the world around her is how Laurel Lee Lusk-Gary is being remembered by family and friends. After a brave journey with cancer, Laurel passed away on Thursday, November 4, 2021 at her home in Salida, Colorado. Born on November 29, 1961 to Richard and Thelma Lusk in Orange Country, California she lived a life dedicated to putting others first and uplifting those around her as exemplified in her teaching profession of over 30-years. Laurel thrived on seeing her Junior High students excel to their highest abilities including in the highly gifted program she taught. She cared deeply for her family, was always there for them and the glue that kept everyone up to date on each other. When she went to Chico State for college and joined Alpha Chi, her sorority sisters became another family to her she fiercely loved throughout her life. Three years ago, Laurel moved with her beloved husband Michael Gary and mother-in-law Milli Gary to Salida to enjoy a retirement life filled with gardening, knitting, walking with their dog Ranger and doing some fishing amongst the picturesque mountains she loved. Laurel Lusk-Gary was preceded in death by her parents and sister-in-law Tracy Gary. She is survived by her loving husband Michael Gary, mother-in-law Milli Gary, step-son & daughter Sean and Ashleigh Gary. Brothers Larry, Richard, Mark and Kerry Lusk. Sister Gay Lusk, nieces Anna Behrendt, Cherish Changala-Miller, Ashley Fields, Kallie and Leslie Lusk. Nephews Ryan, Corey, Paul, and Wesley Lusk as well as her Alpha Chi sisters. As those that love Laurel so very much are dealing with this immeasurable loss, may they find comfort every time they see a rainbow to think of her and remember… Rainbows are people whose lives are bright, shining examples for others. ~ Maya Angelou
