Jimmy Moore Obituary

Our family lost our super hero Sunday night, May 9, 2021, and the world lost a legend. This man was a one-of-a-kind,who meant what he said and said what he meant. He had a heart of gold and under his tough exterior, he was such a softy and so very good to his family. Our hearts are broken and our world will never be the same. We take peace in knowing he is not slowed down by his 95-year-old body that no longer cooperated with his sharp, hard-working mind. Resteasy until we meet again. Jimmy Richard Moore died on his beloved ranch at the age of 95. Jimmy was born on March 28, 1926, in Hooper, Colorado to LeRoy Moore and Zanna Vanderpool Moore, the youngest of seven children. When Jimmy was about two years old his mother died, and Jimmy spent much of his remaining childhood under the care of his beloved Uncle Lewis and Aunt Fern Vanderpool. Jimmy graduated from Holly High School in 1944. He served in the Navy during World War II, returning to Colorado after the war. Soon thereafter he met and wooed Mary A. Owens Williams who had a small daughter, Barscha Lee. Jimmy and Mary were married in Tucson, Arizona on March 16, 1950, returning to Colorado where Jimmy worked in various mines and for various ranches until taking up residence on the ranch north of Villa Grove in 1956, where he and Mary raised Barscha, and two more children, James (Jim) R. Moore and Diane E. Hefley. For many years Jimmy was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Saguache and a member of the Colorado Cattlemen’s Association. Jimmy and Mary celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in March, 2021. Jimmy was predeceased by daughter, Barscha Richey. Survivors include children Jim (Dean) and Diane; grandchildren Robb Richey (Danielle), Cheri Coleman (Mike), Heather Lansaw (Carey), Amber Flowers (Chad), James Hefley, and ten great-grandchildren. A memorial service will take place later in the year.
