Jimmy EugeneJames 73 passed away January 18th unexpectedly at his home. Jim wasborn September 19th, 1948, to Porter and Lola James in Salida, CO where helived his life. Jim was a graduate of Salida High School in 1966. Jim had a passionfor the outdoors he wanted to be a Game Warden but changed his dream to be aPolice Officer. Jim attendedTrinidad Police Academy. After completing the Police Academy Jim came back toSalida and got his first job as a Dispatcher. Shortly after his Dispatch job,Jim became a Police Officer in 1969 and worked for 33 years before he retiredas the Senior Sergeant in 2003. Jim was retired for a short time then beganworking with the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office in 2007 as a Detentions Deputyand was promoted to Sergeant. Jim did everything with passion. He truly enjoyedlaw enforcement and serving the Salida Community. Jim owned his own Guiding Businesscalled Shavano Outfitters for 10 years where he guided lots of hunters givingthem the best hunting experience in the Valley. Jim married the love of his life Shirley Martellaroon June 5, 1970. They had three beautiful daughters Jodi, Kasey andJamie. Jim’s pride and joy was his five wonderful grandkids. He loved givingthem their goofy nicknames, telling them lots of stories and sharing with themall his wonderful words of wisdom. He loved telling them jokes and singing songs,sharing all his hunting stories. Jim loved to also watch hockey and taking hisgrandkids to watch the Gold King’s and Avalanche Hockey games. Jim issurvived by his loving wife of 50 years, daughters Jodi James (Randy Danforth)Panama City, FL Kasey (Clay) Ogden, Salida. Jamie (Mike) Trantham Howard, CO.Grandkids Chance (Rylie) Ogden, Laramie, WY. Blake Ogden, Sierra Lenhart,Alyssa Lenhart and Arabella Trantham and many nieces and nephews. Services willbe held Monday January 24, 2022, at 11:00 am at Grace Church. Friends who desiremay make memorial contributions to Chaffee County Search and Rescue throughLewis and Glenn Funeral Home.
