Herbert “Herb” J. Ficek, 74, of Salida, Colorado, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2025, surrounded by his family. Born June 29, 1951, in Dickinson, North Dakota, to Otto and Dorothy Ficek, Herb was one of eight siblings and carried with him a deep sense of family, faith, and quiet strength throughout his life.
After attending electronics trade school, Herb spent 31 years as an electronic technician in the oil logging industry. He was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather, known for his steady presence and love for the outdoors. Every summer, he led family backpacking trips, instilling in his children a deep appreciation for nature. Following retirement, he and his wife Patricia moved to Salida to be closer to the mountains he cherished.
Herb is survived by Patricia, his wife of 51 years; children Silas, Marcy, and Jacob; grandchildren Luke, Kyla, and Dylan; sisters Bev (Jon) Loyd, Bonnie (Doug) Lanz, Brenda (Rod) Zastoupil; brothers Bernard (Charlotte), Howard (Marian), Herman (Brenda), and Harvey (Kathy) Ficek; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Dorothy Ficek.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, August 30th at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 320 E 5th St, Salida, CO 81242, with a rosary at 10:30 am and mass at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
Herb will be remembered for his devotion to family, his quiet wisdom, faith and his deep love of the natural world. In care of Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.
