George Joseph Lataille, 90, passed away on August 9, 2023 in Salida, Colorado. He was born on May 9, 1933 in Brooklyn, New York to John and Emely (Hirt) Lataille. He married Joan McQueen on November 28, 1965 in Valley Stream, Long Island. George had a passion for service and spent much of his life helping people, including creating & maintaining various youth programs & driving the senior bus, even as a senior himself. He enjoyed about 50 years of refereeing men and women's basketball, as well as umpiring baseball and softball games. He had a long career with the City of New York, during his time he held many positions as he progressed over the years. He was a driver for the Traffic Commissioner, a Supervisor and went on to be the Shop Steward before his retirement.
George was a devout Catholic. He was a longtime member of the Blessed Sacrament Church in Valley Stream, New York. He was awarded Man of the Year of the Parish, was the President of the Holy Name Society and spent much of his time volunteering with the Catholic youth organization,. He was a proud Yankee fan and he also enjoyed supporting the New York Knicks. He loved classic movies - knew all of the Hollywood celebrities by sight- and also appreciated music - especially by Frank Sinatra - and was a wonderful dancer. In addition, he greatly appreciated traveling and seeing all the beauty and interesting sights.
George is survived by his children; Mary (Anthony) Loiacono, John (Lisa) Lataille and Patty LaTaille as well as three grandchildren, Rosemary Loiacono , Christopher Loiacono and Matthew Lataille, plus Chaco, his granddog.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
Cremation was selected and a memorial service will be held in NY at a later date. A small celebration of life and to offer gratitude to all of the kind and caring staff at Columbine Manor is to be held on Tuesday, August 15 from 12:30 to 2 PM.
