Ernest F. Lokey Jr.

Dr. Ernest F. Lokey Jr., age 89, son of Ernest Franklin Lokey and Noma (Nabors) Lokey died on August 29th, 2021 at his home in Salida.

He was born on November 15th, 1931 in Lubbock, Texas and attended public school in Farwell, TX until age 16 when he enrolled in Wentworth Military Academy and graduated in the class of 1950.

In the fall of 1950 he enrolled in Texas Tech University and graduated there in 1954 with a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science and a commission in the U.S. Air Force. He served three years during the Korean War in the Air Force.

Upon completion of military service, he enrolled in Loyola Dental School and received a D.D.S. degree in 1961. After an additional three years of study to become an orthodontist, he then practiced orthodontics for 28 years before retiring.

In 1962 he married Betty Jean “B.J.” Enga.

He was active and held membership in the American Association of Orthodontics, Southern Society of Orthodontics, American Dental Association, Eagle Scouts, Wild Sheep Federation, Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, N.R.A., and Texas Tech Alumni Association.

He enjoyed hiking, hunting, fishing, rafting, and skiing. Most of all, he enjoyed and treasured time spent with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and only sister Jane Lokey Lindsey.

Dr. Lokey is survived by his wife B.J.; daughter Enga Ann of Natrimuk, Australia; four sons Ernest F. Lokey III of Dania, FL, Brad Alvin of New Orleans, LA, David Kim of Los Barriles, Baja Mexico, and Richard Allain of Midwest City, OK; two grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

A private service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Ark-Valley Humane Society through Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.
