Dr. James L Bruffy

With tender hearts we announce the passing of Dr. James L. Bruffy, MD, lovingly referred to by friends and family as Jim. After a rich and adventurous life, Jim passed on March 22nd, 2023 at the age of 81. Jim was born on December 12, 1941 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He grew up in Southern California and graduated from West Covina High School, class of 1959. As a young man, Jim worked as a ranch hand and wrangler at the Hunewill Ranch in Bridgeport, California. In the pursuit of a career in medicine, Jim received degrees from the University of California, Riverside (1963) and the University of Southern California (1967), and completed his residency at the University of California Irvine (1972). Jim was a Doctor of Urology who served communities across Southern Colorado for 35 years. He was known to his colleagues, residents, nurses, and patients as a compassionate, caring physician. Jim was a dedicated and honored Rotarian in both the Canon City and Salida Chapters. Jim was generous with his commitment to Rotary and served his community dutifully. Jim lived a spirited and humble life. He loved jeeping in Utah, fishing at Blue Mesa Reservoir and was an avid traveler. His favorite travels included the South Pacific, Vietnam, The Galapagos, and New Orleans. Jim enjoyed grilling on his Green Egg, reading up on history, and spending time with cherished friends. Jim is survived by his wife, Alys Bruffy, daughter, Hannah Keene, and son, Derek Bruffy Moll, who he loved dearly. A Celebration of Jim’s Life is planned for April 30th, 2023 at the Rotary Scout Hut in Salida, Colorado from 2pm to 5pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be directed to the Salida Rotary Club as a gesture of Jim’s goodwill. On line condolences may be sent to the family at lewisandglenn.com.
