Donald E. Swett, age 84, passed away peacefully in his home on March 15, 2021 in Leadville, Colorado.
Don was born in the Sand Hills of Nebraska in the town of Ainsworth on December 9, 1936. After attending the University of Nebraska, Kearney, he went to work for the Department of Interior Bureau of Reclamation. His career began as a surveyor, later advancing to a supervisory position within the department. He retired after 32 years with the Bureau of Reclamation.
Don married Sharon D. Haas of Valentine Nebraska on August 29, 1961 in Mission, South Dakota. In 1965 upon a transfer within the Bureau of Reclamation, he relocated his family to Buena Vista, Colorado, then in 1971 to his permanent residence in Leadville, Colorado.
Don’s hobbies included hunting, fishing, camping, four wheeling, boating, and tending to his lawn & flowers. He enjoyed playing games and spending time with his family and grandchildren as well as their numerous pets. He enjoyed traveling with his wife to many different countries. He was also an active member of the Good Shephard Lutheran Church.
Don is preceded in death by his parents, Erman and Pauline Swett; Brother, Richard Swett; and grandson, Joshua Simpson.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sharon (Haas) Swett; Son, Donald K. (Marilyn) Swett of Denver, Colorado; Daughters, Kimberly Simpson of Leadville and Lynette (Ron) Fresquez of Leadville; Grandchildren, Zachary Fresquez, Melissa Simpson, and Haley (Zack) Stamps all of Leadville, Colorado; Sister-in-law, Sharon (Richard) Swett of Kearney, Nebraska.
A memorial service for family and friends will be planned at a later date during the summer.
