Donald R. Collins

Donald Ray Collins of Saguache was born April 11th, 1932 to Lee and Emma Collins in Lamar, Colorado. On May 26th, 2021, Don passed away at home surrounded by his family.

Don had 3 sisters, Laura Collins (Smith), Marlene Collins (Elrod) and Dorothy Mae Collins (Anderson).

In 1936 due to the Dust Bowl, the Collins family migrated from Lamar to the Salida/Poncha Springs area via a team and wagon followed by the family car.

Don was a United States Army Veteran. He served in Japan from 1950-1952.

On June 3, 1956 Donald married Judith K. Collins. Together they had 3 children, Russel John Collins, Warren Wade Collins Sr. and Colleen Kay Collins (Green).

Don worked for Sangre de Cristo Electric in Buena Vista CO, CF&I Steel Co at Monarch. Prior to retiring Don was also a rancher in the Salida & Hooper area.

Don is survived by his wife of 65 years Judy Collins, his children- Russel Collins,  Colleen (Randy) Green, daughter in law Twyla Collins, grandchildren - Susan Collins, Christa (Travis) Heikes, Warren Wade Jr. (Sarah) Collins, Jason (Kassi) Collins, James Green. Great-grandchildren - Codie and Marissa Heikes, Hailey, Lane & Gracie Collins, Kolt & Jett Collins and Hadley Livings. Along with numerous nieces and nephews in the Salida area.

Don is preceeded in death by his sisters, his son Warren Wade Collins Sr and grandson Nicholas Collins.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday June 5th, 2021 at 10:00 AM at Fairview Cemetery. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.lewisandglenn.com. Arrangements were with Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.
