David W. Martinez

David Wayne Martinez, age 43, unexpectedly passed away January 6th, 2022. David was born in Salida, Colorado to Larry and Robin Martinez on December 11, 1978. David’s childhood consisted of camping, hunting, fishing, and dirtbike riding. David had a large, close-knit extended family. His father, Larry, known as the Chief of the family, taught him as a child the importance of carrying on family traditions. After his father passed, David proudly continued the legacy and took on the role of Chief for the entire family. David's work ethic and success started in high school working in his dad’s auto shop. After high school he moved on to become the store manager at Checkers Auto Parts (O’Reilly’s) for 18 years. In 2016, he joined the Town and Country Dealership team as the Ford Service Advisor and most recently moved to the Parts Department Manager. He married Shawna Heiken in 1998, and together they had three beautiful children, Jacob 23, Coby 21, and Hannah 17. His pride, joy, and greatest accomplishment was raising his kids. In 2012, David met the love of his life, Summer, and gained another daughter, Lexi. Over the past 10 years, David and Summer have built a beautiful life together for their family. They have made countless memories and had big plans for their future together. David’s a family man who was always seeking adventure through his hobbies, from fishing for giant lake trout at Twin Lakes with his best friend, Bob, to hunting for elk in the valley with his family, to his newest passion for riding razors with Summer and their trail family. David Martinez is preceded in death by his father Larry Martinez. He is survived by his mother Robin Martinez, life partner Summer Stehle, children Jacob (Kendra), Coby (Hailee), Lexi, and Hannah, grandson Briceton, brothers Jason (Shanna) Butterfield, Chris (Tanya) Martinez, Larry (Sarah) Martinez, and many nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, and cousins. David always had a big heart and a passion for helping others. To pass on his love for the outdoors donations can be sent to Lewis & Glenn Funeral Home for Chaffee County Mentors.
