Daniel Jack Ashley, born July 20, 1955, in Salida, Colorado, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2024.
Dan grew up in Salida and after graduation, he worked in various mines in the region, often humorously referring to his work experience as “the school of mines.” He spent his later years in Bonanza, Colorado, a place he affectionately (and frequently) referred to as God’s country.
Dan was known for his kindness, his infectious laugh, his ability to pull repeated pranks on those around him, and of course his ability to break out the chicken dance at any time to any song, except for when he was gracefully dancing with his daughters to the two-step or teaching his son not to boom-chink that same dance.
He loved spending time with family, music around the piano (where he didn’t come to “hear ya’ practice”), playing poker (with frequent displays of his bluffing face while proclaiming he’d ‘raise ya’ one’), hunting, fishing, teasing his brother and sister, his wife or his kids (a lifelong hobby for him on all counts) and sitting around the fire or near the woodstove simply enjoying spending time with family and friends.
Dan was preceded in death by his father, Jack E. Ashley. He is survived by his wife, Pamela (Bess) Ashley of 48 years, their children Amanda Ashley (Sheri Huther), Edie Ashley, Adam Ashley, Sara Hunsucker (Hayden Hunsucker), and his mother, Betty L. (Johnston) Ashley, and siblings Tami Ashley and Scott Ashley (Cathy Ashley), as well as cherished grandchildren Jack Ashley, Adelayne Hunsucker, Oskar Hunsucker, Colten Ashley and Kayden Gouty. He will also be fondly remembered by his aunts and uncle, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, September 5, 2024 at 11:00 am at Lewis and Glen Funeral Home in Salida, CO.
