Cecile LaRue Young, of Salida, died on January 26th. She was 81 years old and had lived in Salida since 1980. Cecile was born in Winfield, Kansas on March 7th, 1942, to Rose and Marvin Williams.
Cecile was a teacher and taught in both Grand Junction and Steamboat Springs, before she and her husband Carl settled in Salida, and she began teaching in the Buena Vista Schools. She is remembered fondly by her former students and taught in Buena Vista until her retirement in 2020. She was an active church member and long-standing supporter of the Republican Party. Cecile was active in the local party organization for many years. An active, gregarious, and athletic individual, she enjoyed a variety of outdoor activities. When she was younger, she enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and hiking with her husband Carl. After she arrived in Salida, she took up golf, and was well known at the Salida Golf Club, winning the Ladies Championship several times.
Cecile is predeceased by her husband Carl, five sisters, and two brothers. She is survived by her sister, Bonny Spence, of Salida, her stepson Marc Young, of Greeley, her granddaughter, Hannah Gamber, of Broomfield, and numerous nieces and nephews.
No services will take place, as Cecile requested, but we do appreciate your love and support during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made in her honor to the Ark-Valley Humane Society.
