Barbara Taylor Obituary

Barbara “Babs” Joan Taylor, 92, of Salida died Oct. 27, 2018. She was born June 12, 1926, and grew up in Rowlesburg, W. Va. She met her husband, Herbert Taylor, Jr., while he was running his paper route. After graduating high school she worked for the board of education while waiting for Mr. Taylor to return from combat. He asked her to marry him upon his return. She was 19 and he was 21. The couple married March 20, 1945. Mrs. Taylor followed her husband to Germany, where she participated in the Berlin Airlift, along with 12 other wives, and made Operation Little Vittles parachutes for the Berlin Airlift. She traveled the world, including all through Europe, Scandinavia, North Africa, Mexico and South America. She lived in 14 different states before settling in Salida. Mrs. Taylor enjoyed several activities, including golf, flying, motorcycling, camping and boating. She was a member of the Rowlesburg Historical Society, an active member of the Daughters of the Revolution and the Red Hat Society. Her oldest daughter, Melinda Hodges, was born in Germany, and her son, Jeff Taylor, was born in West Virginia. Survivors include her son; daughter; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Arrangements are with Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home in Salida.
