Obituary

Anne Marie Lippert passed away on Monday, July 24, 2023, at the age of 81 after a long and courageous battle against Lewy body dementia. She will be greatly missed for her easy laughter and concern for others.

Anne Marie was born on September 19, 1941, in Detroit, MI, to her two loving, devoted Catholic parents, Edward and Bernice Camilleri, who also had three other children, Terrance, James, and Mary. Her parents exemplified the fabric of America: Edward was born in Malta and Bernice was born in Canada. Rumor has it that they met on a blind date.

Anne Marie grew up in Detroit during the advent of rock’n’roll, sock hops, and soda fountains. After graduating from Dominican High School in 1962, Anne Marie began working at JL Hudson’s department store, where she also participated in their annual Thanksgiving Day parade. One day, after falling down on a ski slope, a handsome young gentleman, Robert (Bob) Lippert, from Romulus, MI, helped her back up on her skis, and it was love at first sight. Her sister Mary used to tease her with the famous song, “Bobby’s Girl.” This led to many dates, including in a small airplane after Bob learned how to fly. She was truly devoted to him! The two were married in August 1964, moved to the Denver area in Colorado, and raised three boys, Stephen, Timothy, and Jeffrey, all of whom graduated from Colorado universities.

Anne Marie spent the best part of her life in Colorado raising her family. She was a loving mother and everyone’s biggest cheerleader, and if you wanted something done, everyone knew Anne Marie would help take care of it! She had active roles in her church, the local school, and her community, while working as a bookkeeper at various locations in Arapahoe County, CO, and participating in her sons’ scouting activities. She enjoyed the peace and solitude of camping throughout the great Southwest, with memorable trips such as visiting the Grand Canyon. She was also an avid reader and knitter. During the time Bob worked for United Airlines before retiring in 1999 after 42 years, the family went on many trips to Michigan to visit family and to exotic places like Hawaii. After retirement, Anne Marie and Bob moved to Salida, CO, and relished life in the Rocky Mountains, until Bob’s sudden death from a heart attack in May 2003. Anne Marie continued to live in Salida, supported St. Joseph Catholic Church, and enjoyed swimming in the local hot-spring-fed pool. During her daily walks in her neighborhood with her dog Petey, she often spotted deer and other wildlife along the way.

By 2013, Anne Marie started experiencing memory issues, and her sister Mary, who lives in Portland, OR, encouraged her to move into a foster home near her. They had many happy times together during the last 10 years of her life. Her sister and her family and all her caregivers dearly loved Anne Marie. Her hospice team always marveled at her high spirits and easy laughter.

Anne Marie is survived by her three loving boys, their wives, seven grandchildren, her sister Mary and brother-in-law James Minor, and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by all.
