Dolores Cathlyn O'Connor  passed away peacefully on the evening of September 2, 2017 surrounded by family. She was 88. Dolores was born March 16, 1929 in St. Louis, Missouri to Edward (Edgar) and Viola Mendenhall. Early on, her Mother and her moved to Buena Vista where she attended Buena Vista Schools. She loved learning and would often speak of her educators. She also loved athletics and became involved in not only cheering on the teams but competing on the girls basketball team and playing baseball. She was a cheerleader, class president, on the annual yearbook staff, school newspaper staff, student council and glee club. After graduation, Dolores held an officer position with the Buena Vista High School Alumni Association. It was during her school years that she met a young man named William "Bill" O'Connor who would become the love of her life. She waited patiently while Bill went off to help fight the war in the Pacific. She worked at Round-Up Lodge, the Drug Store and the Telephone Company while being courted by Bill after his return from the war. She spent much of that time getting to know Bill's rather large family of 9 and she wished to have a large, loving family of her own. Dolores and Bill were married June 21, 1950, "the longest day of the year," she would smile and say. As the years went by, her family grew and finally she had the large and loving family she had desired. Dolores enjoyed cooking, baking, reading, gardening, listening to various types of music and spending time with family and friends. She was active for many years in the Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church as a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, sang in the Church Choir and taught Catechism. Dolores loved people. She always found a way to make any visitors, friends or relatives feel comfortable and welcome when they stopped by for a visit. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Bill, sons Patrick and Anthony and daughter Ann. She is survived by her children, Cheryl, Tim, Jim (Rosemary), Bill (Rhonda), Jerry (Donna), Maureen and Cathy Ashley (Scott), grandchildren Tara and Ryan (Cheryl), Callie and Keefe (Jim), Chris and Caitlin (Bill), Casey and Hailey (Maureen) and great-grandchildren Tyler, Corey and Zayne (Tara), Braydon and Aubrie (Callie) and Ryan Jr. (Ryan).

The family would like to acknowledge and express their heartfelt appreciation to Irma Abbot, Caroline Payton and the Heart of the Rockies Home Health and Hospice personnel for the superb care provided to our Mother.

A Rosary is scheduled for Friday, September 8, at 7 P.M. with Funeral Mass at 11 A.M. Saturday, September 9, at the Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Buena Vista.
