Steve Jimmy Leewaye, 69, passed away July 11, 2017, at Parkview Medical Center.  Steve resided in Pueblo West, Colorado with his wife of 17 years, Geraldine C. Leewaye.
Steve was born December 25, 1947 in Salida, Colorado to Arthur F. and Sally E. Leewaye.
Steve was a long time resident of Salida, but his love of travel and adventure led him to also live in Wasilla Alaska, Monte Vista Colorado, Bucksport Maine, and Pueblo West.
He attended schools in Salida, graduating from Salida High School in 1966.
Steve joined the United States Marine Corps in 1967 and served his country in Vietnam.  Steve was extremely proud of his military service.  He received numerous commendations throughout his time in the Marine Corps including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device, Navy Achievement Medal with Combat “V”, Vietnam Service Medal with 1 *, Combat Action Ribbon, Meritorious Mast, Rifle Expert Badge, and Good Conduct Medal.

Steve loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his animal friends and companions.  He was a jokester, always wanting to make someone laugh and lift their spirits.  He had a vast yearning for knowledge of the Native American ways and spent enormous amounts of time researching family history and genealogy.  He touched the lives of all he came into contact with and will be missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Art and Sally, his brother Jake, and man’s best friend, his dog Sitka.
