William Franklin "Bill" Jenkins, 66, passed away April 4, 2018 at his home in Saguache, Colorado. Bill was born September 15, 1951 in Saguache to Charles and Geneva (Burch) Jenkins.
Bill attended school in Saguache. He joined the US Air Force in 1972, and was honorably discharged in 1975. Bill recently retired from the Saguache County Road and Bridge Department after 31 years as an equipment operator.
On December 31, 1986, Bill was united in marriage to Patricia Butler in Del Norte, Colorado.
Bill was a Life Member of the American Legion, and served as Colorado State Commander from 1994-1995. Bills passion was helping and honoring veterans, which he will be fondly remembered for.
He loved the mountains and enjoyed hunting, fishing, driving his ATV, and watching wildlife.. He loved to restore old jeeps, and recently donated one of them to the American Legion Garcia Post 110 of Saguache. Bill never met a stranger, he talked to everyone he met. He made a great Santa Claus, as he enjoyed seeing the children's faces light up as well as the veterans at Homelake Care Center in Monte Vista, CO.
Bill is survived by his wife of 32 years, Patricia of Saguache; sisters, Charlene (CJ) Weis and Marilyn (Stephen) Pacheco both of Saguache; brothers, Robert (Sue) Jenkins of Waldport, OR and James (Linette) Jenkins of Alamosa, CO; stepson, Chad Smith of Crown Point, IN; nephew, Travis Weis; nieces, Mila Sacket, Jennifer Jenkins, and Pamela Pacheco; great nieces, Ania and Chloe Sacket; and great nephew, Niall Sacket. He is also survived by six step granddaughters, and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Memorial Service will be at 1:00 p.m., Friday, April 27, 2018 at the Saguache Community Building in Saguache with full Military Honors to follow at Hillside Cemetery in Saguache.
