Warren Johnson Obituary

Warren Douglas Johnson, 72, of Salida, Colorado, died July 10, 2019, in Denver of complications from cancer. Born to Bobby and Marjorie Johnson on April 10, 1947, in Bloomington, Illinois, he was the oldest of four children. Warren was raised on a farm in Chenoa, Illinois, and after finishing his degree in agriculture at the University of Illinois, he married Linda Johnson in 1972. They had just celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary on July 8. He and Linda raised two adventurous boys on their beautiful farm in central Illinois. They enjoyed farming together and showing 4-H pigs at the McLean County Fair every year. In 2012, the couple relocated from Illinois to Salida, Colorado, so that Linda could take a management position at Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center. Warren was an active member of Northside Church of Christ in Bloomington, Illinois, and then Poncha Springs Church of Christ after relocating to Colorado. He and Linda have been attending Grace Church since 2016. Jesus Christ was always his foundation and strength, which brought him through the hard times of losing his son and fighting cancer. He was known for his love of people, and he never met a stranger. On airplanes (and in waiting rooms, gas stations, and pretty much anywhere else) he would strike up conversations with anyone nearby who wasn’t wearing headphones! Heand Linda took many trips to Walt Disney World and Disneyland with family and friends, and of course Warren made newfriends there as well. Warren was preceded in death by his father, Bobby Johnson of Chenoa, Illinois, in 2007; his oldest son Andy Johnson of Salida, Colorado, in 2014; and his sister-in-law Janet Smith of Leroy, Illinois, in 2017. Survivors include his mother, Marjorie, of Normal, Illinois; wife, Linda, of Salida, Colorado; son, Dan (Laura) Johnson of Salida; daughter-in-law Jill Johnson of Salida, Colorado; brothers John (Jenny) Johnson and Russell (Carol) Johnson, both of Chenoa, Illinois; sister Carol (Paul) Ummel of Saybrook, Illinois; brother-in-law Jim (Mary) Wilson of Benson, Illinois; sister-in-law Pat (Ed) Fox of Secor, Illinois; brother-in-law Roger Smith of Leroy, Illinois; eleven grandchildren: Luke, Grace, Drew, Ben, Sam, Ellie, Jake, Alice, Carrie, Matthew, and Anna-Grace, all of Salida, Colorado; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at Grace Church in Salida, Colorado, on Thursday, July 18, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. followed by a graveside service at Fairview Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at Northside Church of Christ in Bloomington, Illinois, on July 22, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family would prefer donations to go to Grace Church in Salida, Poncha Springs Church of Christ, or Northside Church of Christ in Bloomington, Illinois. Arrangements are with Lewis & Glenn Funeral Home in Salida. On line condolences maybe sent to the family at lewisandglenn.com
