Samuel M. DeLeo, former Salida resident, died on April 23, 2019 in Pueblo. He was born in Salida on November 9, 1922 to Emilo and Ausante “Annie” (Gianelli) DeLeo.
He served in the United States Army and was a World War II Veteran. After the war, he returned to Salida where he worked for the Rio Grande Motorway delivering freight. He married Mary Linza on March 11, 1947 and together they had three children.
Sam was a longtime member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and the Salida Elks. He was an avid sports fan who especially enjoyed watching the Broncos, Rockies, and Nuggets. He also enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas, playing bingo, completing puzzles, and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son Anthony “Ants” DeLeo; brothers John DeLeo and Frank “Chick” DeLeo; sisters Chris Guiliano, Rita Guiliano, Mary O’Hara, and Eva DeLeo.
Survivors include his son Arthur (DeeDee) DeLeo; daughter Teresa (Mike) McQuitty; daughter-in-law Shirley DeLeo; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made through Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
A rosary will be held on Tuesday April 30, 2019 at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 with interment following at Fairview Cemetery.
