Peter B. Lee, 84 of Buena Vista, CO, died Friday June 22, 2018. He passed peacefully surrounded by friends and family. He was born in Minneapolis, MN, to Ephrine and Madge (Adams) Lee on September 26, 1933 and grew up in the Twin Cities area.
After attending the University of Minnesota, Peter joined the US Marine Corps, serving as an officer and A-4 pilot during the Vietnam War. Following his honorable discharge he was a captain for Frontier and Continental Airlines, and over the course of his career was typed in the DC3, 737, MD80, and iconic 747. He took his life’s passion for aviation to the FAA, as an inspector in the Denver Office before retiring in 1999.
He spent several of his golden years living aboard the sailboat Noelia, venturing from Newfoundland to the Caribbean Sea, before finally settling in Buena Vista with his wife Mary. They joined Grace Church, where Peter was a member of the choir. Blessed with a beautiful voice and a love of song, he also sang with the Collegiate Peaks Chorale. He enjoyed exploring and camping in the mountains of CO, NM and UT.
He is survived by his wife Mary; his sons Mitch (Michelle) Lee, Mike Lee; his daughter, Gigi (Steven) McKenzie; his stepson, James (Danya) Hallman; and six grandchildren.
