Margaret Elina (Neifert )Myers

Passed July 20, 2018 at age 93

Went home to be with her lord Jesus July 20th, 2018. Margaret was the 3rd child of 5, born to John and Hilda (Strom) Neifert. She was born in Yuma Colorado. At age 5 her father was killed in a truck-train accident and the family struggled to survive during the depression years. At a later date her mother married Daniel Neifert and they had 2 additional daughters. The family moved to the little Cochetopa area just west of Poncha Springs in her pre-teen years where she attended the one-room Sand Creek school house through 8th grade.

In order to attend high school in Salida she worked for room and board at various families in town and graduated in 1944. She had met her future husband Robert E. Myers while working at Jenny’s Diner in Salida and they married November 28th, 1945.

Margaret served as Deputy County clerk in Chaffee County for 21 years. In retirement she served with the Republican Women’s club, worked as an election Judge, volunteered at the Salida Senior center, and was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church for over 50 years.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Lawrence, Harold, Don, and Husband Reverend Robert Sr. Survived by sisters Dorothy Padfield, Betty (John) Rau, and Helen (Art) Martinez. Children Dr. Robert E. (Luaine) Myers , Melinda (Gary) Lange, and Pastor John (Pamela) Myers. Also surviving her are 8 Grandchildren, 21 Great-grandchildren, and 4 Great-Great grandchildren.

A memorial of her life will be celebrated July 28th @ 10am at Grace Church, 1320 D. Street, Salida. Interment will follow at 1:00 PM at Fairview Cemetery.

Memorial funds may be made to Grace Church, building fund.
