Leonora “Lee” N. Sohl, 78, of Salida, died at home Feb. 5, 2019.
She was born Aug. 15, 1940, in New York City, the first child of Julia and Leonard Gomez.
She married John J. Sohl in 1960 in New York City.
Mrs. Sohl moved to Salida in 1999 to be near her two daughters following retirement from a 26-year career as City Clerk of the City of Anaheim, California.
In Salida, she became involved in many civic activities as a member of the Rotary Club and other organizations. Family members said she was proud of her Rotary service, especially conceiving and helping produce the first and subsequent Spring Home & Garden Shows at the Chaffee County Fairgrounds.
Her other favorite local charities were the Boys and Girls Club and Chaffee County Mentors. She was also an active member of the Episcopal Church of the Ascension. Family members said she loved cooking and taking care of the children at church.
In addition to her local activities, she enjoyed travel with her sisters and close friends. She cherished her two grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband and her beloved brother Michael.
Mrs. Sohl is survived by her daughters Julia and Margaret (Jeff) Sohl of Salida; son John (Debbie) of San Diego, California; and grandsons John and Michael; sisters Gloria Lentz of Los Angeles, California, and Marcella Creighton (Jim) of Calabash, North Carolina; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and many dear friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to a charity of your choice.
Plans for a memorial service at Church of the Ascension in Salida will be announced.
