George Edwards Obituary

Longtime Salida resident, George R. “Ed” Edwards, 86, passed away August 26, 2019 at Bruce McCandless Nursing Home in Florence, Colorado. Mr. Edwards was born August 20, 1933 in Reedsville, West Virginia to George and Katie Edwards. Mr. Edwards was married to Lillian Jean Stirling on January 10, 1952 in Winchester, VA. To this union were born three children, Timothy, Cindy and Katie. Mr. Edwards enlisted into the United States Air Force on August 31, 1951. He and Jean and their growing family moved to numerous locations throughout the United States as he furthered his military career, retiring at Fort Peterson in Colorado Springs after 20 years of service. After his retirement, the Edwards family moved to Salida, Colorado to make their home. It was at this time that they became involved in the restaurant business. First at the Shavano Truck Stop and then on September 1, 1976, Ed andJean purchased the Patio Pancake Place which has remained a Edwards’ family affair to this date. Ed enjoyed this mountain environment with hobbies of hunting and fishing. But his lifelong passion was collecting muscle cars, preferring the high performance Ford 1960 & 1961 Starliner’s , owning and restoring several as well as other models that he added and sold from his collection. He won many trophies at numerous local and distant car shows. Mr. Edwards was preceded in death by his parents, sister Margaret Wade, brothers Howard and John Edwards, son Timothy Edwards and grandson Kenny Edwards. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, sister Edna Gould, daughters Cindy (Dan) Peacock, Katie (Ralph) Croft both of Salida and daughter-in-law Charlene Edwards of Florence, CO. Grandchildren Michael (Alicia) DeLeo , Mark (Tambara) DeLeo, Richard (Katie) Graf, Jill (Jerrad) Peacock, Grant Peacock, all of Salida, Brandy (Bryon) Davis of Canon City, CO, Laray (Cory) Henderson of Wetmore, CO and twenty five great grandchildren.
