Dale Thomas Myers, 83, of Salida, died August 20, 2018 after a brief stay at the Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center.
He was born November 3, 1934, in Ada, Oklahoma to Thomas and Agnes Myers. He attended high school in Ada before starting work in the oil fields in California at age 16.
He met his wife of 66 years, Norma Russell, and they married on October 11, 1952 at the Garfield/Ponatac County line in Oklahoma.
The family moved to Salida in 1963 where he worked in carpentry before opening his own business, M&M Backhoe Service. He was well known for his pump and drilling and services throughout Chaffee County, especially in Alpine. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and the outdoors which brought the family to Colorado. He was an avid team roper, having won the first United States Team Roping Championship in Oklahoma City in 1997. He was a member of the Heart of Rockies Roping Club and the Continentals.
Friends remember him for his quick sense of humor and love of family.
Mr. Myers was preceded in death by his parents and Norma. Survivors include siblings Terry McNeal, Bill Myers and Homer Myers; children, Patsy (Bob) Ochs of Salida, Tommy (Jeanna) Myers of Salida, Jeannie (Chris) Nachtrieb of Salida, and Larry Myers; grandchildren Jessica (Matt) Bennett, Lee Ochs, Lacy (Dewey) Dyer, Tommie Jean Myers, Crissa (Brad) Abbott and Bailey (Frankie) DeBuano; greatgrandchildren Kruz Bennett, Dane Bennett, Slade Dyer, Bray Dyer and Creed Abbott; and dogs Noodle and Sally.
