Ashleigh Smith Obituary

Ashleigh (Susan Ellen) Smith passed peacefully at her home in Salida, Colorado surrounded by love Sunday December 15, 2019. Ashleigh was born in San Antonio, Texas to a young military couple James & Nancy Smith.

She was part of a military family that took her all over the country as a young girl. She and her family lived in Hawaii in the 1950's. Hawaii remained one of her happy places and she traveled there often.

Ashleigh was a true lover of life.

She was a female pioneer in the computer sales industry. She was a runner, skier and hiker. She loved beautiful things and good wine, company and food. She could light up a room with her smile. She loved a good joke. Ashleigh lived in Boulder a good part of her life but chose to retire in Salida, CO to be near her family and beloved hot springs and golf course. A diagnosis of cancer a decade ago and later on a stroke, did little to slow her down.

She is survived by her family and many friends. Her sister Jan Marie Smith and her husband Stephen Johnson and her nephew Nate lived near her in Salida. She is also survived by her sister Sharon Kanzler and many nieces and nephews. Her parents, and brothers Kenny & Randy preceeded her in death.

Her family wants to extend thank you to HRRMC oncology department and all of the nurses and doctors we have come to know and love. And we can never say enough thanks to HRRMC Hospice services. Ashleigh threw several parties while she was alive for her friends and family-in lieu of an after-life ceremony.

In her honor, we ask that you take the time to enjoy a sunrise or sunset at a favorite place. Enjoy a glass of wine. Enjoy each other. Please also consider a donation to your local hospice in her honor. Pay it forward to anyone fighting cancer. Pay a utility bill for a cancer family or buy them groceries. In honor of our dear sister, aunt and friend. “You belong among the wildflowers...”
