Anastacio “Layo” Martinez, 79, died April 27, 2019, in Salida.
He was born April 15, 1940, to Jose and Flora Martinez.
Known to many as “Papa Layo,” he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Mr. Martinez later worked for the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad for more than 30 years.
He loved bowling, spending time with his family (especially his grandchildren), sitting at Loaf ’N Jug with his buddies and cruising F Street.
Mr. Martinez was preceded in death by his brothers, Joe, Pete and Tony Martinez; and sisters Della Galbreath, Steffie Romero, Porfie Martinez, Judy Martinez and his twin sister, Leese Medrano.
Survivors include his daughter, Tisha (Rick) Leewaye; son, Layo (Chrisann) Martinez; sister Elsie Garcia; grandsons, Damien Martinez and Darrien Gutierrez; granddaughters, Rickii Leewaye, Samantha Leewaye, Anastacia Martinez and Paisleigh Martinez; great-grandsons, Bentley Cockram and Aeden Huber; and many nieces and nephews.
His funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. May 18, 2019, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 320 E. Fifth St. A meal will follow in the gym.
Arrangements are with Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home in Salida.
